New Scania 8x8 Tipper Truck

Postby Bear » Thu Nov 05, 2015 4:35 pm

Well my friend bought this truck and had a few problems with it, so I bought it. :D

Comes in this fancy carry box

Also came with electronics

Perfect for the excavator

And the problems

First was the steering, one of the four steering wheels had too much toe out so caught the suspension on full lock but I already fixed this for my friend.

Second the fuel tank which holds the hydralic oil (O yes it's got working hydraulic tip mechanism) leaks at the ends. My friend complained to the US seller who sent a replacement tank but this also leaks. :AR

Here's the leaking tank

So my friend got the old one welded shut and polished back to a nice shine but never got round to fitting it so I got with the truck so I can fix the second issue.

Welded one fitted

Image

A few leaks under the truck but appear to be from the pump, maybe a presure release point.

Comes with electronics for sound and lights

I think are Servonaut or copied version as sound same. I need to figure out how to turn hazards lights off as on all the time for now. :AR

Overall it drives ace, full wheel drive with diff lock on all four axles it goes anywhere. :D

That's nice, Bear. :AG

An explanation of how the hydraulics work would be lovely, as I've always wanted to have a go on this type of system but couldn't afford it.

Cheers

Hi Ken,

Seems a basic hydraulic setup a brushed compressor which maybe 2 way as I don't see any servo to it. Which directly feeds the piston. I will take some pictures and share, but at moment it is all hidden away not told mrs about this purchase ;)

With no servo I think you will find that if you run in one direction the ram will extend - run in the other and it will retract.

Hi Ken,

Sorry I just realised I forgot to take some pictures of the hydraulic system for you.

I picked up this figure from ebay for £8

So added him to the drivers position.

And he’s the beast getting dirty

Wow didn't realise it was so long since I posted about this truck.

Well after the first year it sat in box unused I took it out and was a little rough with it and damaged the second axle  £120 for a replacement :TD

fast forward 6 months and decided to pull finger out and get axle fitted and a few other bits. So job list

Change radio and receiver for a 10 channel
Fix axle
Adjust steering (combination of mechanical and radio limits)
Change fog lights to white (was orange)
Fit flashing lights
Paint
General check make sure all setup right (turns out the diff lock wasn't working on front axle so needed manually doing a few times to ease up)
Get custom decals and put on.

Well got most done and today had it's maiden drive
